NORTHERN SISTERS - WINTER GLOW

This 8-day women's journey invites you to discover the quiet beauty of Finnish Lapland. Chase the Northern Lights, meet huskies and reindeer, warm up in a traditional Finnish sauna, and wander the peaceful winter trails of Pyhä–Luosto National Park—sharing unforgettable moments with a small group of like-minded women.

There are few places in the world where winter feels as magical as it does in Finnish Lapland. Snow-covered forests, frozen lakes, crystal-clear nights and—if you're lucky—the Northern Lights dancing across the sky create an atmosphere you'll never forget.

Together with Rebecca, you'll discover the winter landscapes of Pyhä–Luosto National Park in a small group of like-minded women, far away from the crowds of the major tourist resorts. Meet reindeer and huskies, explore snow-covered forests on snowshoes, experience the traditions of the Finnish sauna, and embrace the deep stillness of the Arctic wilderness.

Rebecca personally guides every journey. As the co-founder of Finnspirit, she has called Finland home for many years and loves sharing her favourite places, local stories, and the quiet way of life that makes the North so special.

More than a winter holiday, this journey is an opportunity to experience Finnish Lapland through local eyes—sharing unforgettable moments, genuine Finnish hospitality, and the company of women who enjoy discovering nature together.

HIGHLIGHTS

Winter in the far north of Finland casts a quiet spell over Lapland—raw, pure and breathtakingly beautiful.

What Makes This Journey Special

Experience the Arctic Winter with All Your Senses

Snow-covered forests, frozen lakes, crisp Arctic air and the deep silence of Finnish Lapland accompany you throughout the journey. Here, winter isn't just the backdrop—it's something you'll experience with every step.

Northern Lights Instead of City Lights

Pyhä–Luosto National Park is one of Finland's best places to witness the Aurora Borealis. On clear winter evenings, you'll head out together to the best viewing spots, hoping to catch the Northern Lights dancing across the Arctic sky.

Experience Authentic Finnish Winter Traditions

From traditional Finnish sauna and sauna yoga to baking cinnamon buns, meeting huskies and reindeer, and gathering around a campfire in the snow, you'll experience Lapland the way locals have for generations.

Guided Personally by Rebecca

Rebecca accompanies the journey from start to finish, sharing her knowledge of Finnish culture, the landscapes of Lapland and everyday life in the far north. Her personal approach offers an authentic experience far beyond the usual tourist routes.

The Northern Sisters Community

As with every Northern Sisters journey, this experience is about more than the destination. Shared adventures, meaningful conversations and lasting friendships naturally grow as you explore the Arctic winter together in a small group of nature-loving women.

Journey Itinerary

Day 1

Arrival in Rovaniemi

Upon arrival at Rovaniemi Airport, you'll be warmly welcomed by Rebecca before travelling approximately 120 km to Pyhä or Luosto, located just north of the Arctic Circle beside Pyhä–Luosto National Park. Along the way, you'll catch your first glimpses of Lapland's snow-covered fells, birch forests and vast Arctic landscapes.

After settling into your accommodation, unwind in a traditional Finnish sauna before enjoying a shared welcome dinner—the perfect way to begin your journey together.

Snowshoeing & Finnish Sauna

After breakfast, you'll set off on your first guided snowshoe walk through the peaceful winter forests of Pyhä–Luosto National Park. With every step through the crisp snow, you'll discover the quiet beauty of the Arctic wilderness at a gentle pace.

The afternoon is yours to enjoy—whether you'd like to relax, spend some time journaling, or simply embrace the stillness of Lapland.

In the evening, unwind in a traditional Finnish sauna before preparing and sharing dinner together at your accommodation.

Meals: Breakfast, outdoor lunch and dinner

Day 3

Reindeer, Sámi Traditions & Sauna Yoga

After breakfast, you'll visit a traditional reindeer farm, where you'll meet the animals and enjoy a peaceful reindeer sleigh ride through the snow-covered forest.

During your visit, you'll gain fascinating insights into the Sámi way of life, learning about reindeer herding, local traditions and the seasonal rhythm that has shaped life in the far north for generations. Afterwards, you'll warm up with a hot drink and a bowl of traditional reindeer soup, with plenty of time to ask questions and enjoy the conversation.

Back at the accommodation in the afternoon, the pace slows once again. In the evening, Rebecca—who is a certified Sauna Yoga instructor—will guide you through a relaxing Sauna Yoga session before another cosy evening together.

Meals: Breakfast, lunch (traditional reindeer soup) and dinner

Day 4

Huskies, Arctic Landscapes & the Northern Lights

Start the day with a leisurely breakfast and, if you wish, a refreshing morning sauna.

Later in the morning, you'll experience one of Lapland's true highlights: a husky sled ride through the snowy wilderness. Feel the excitement of gliding across the winter landscape, surrounded by crisp Arctic air and the boundless beauty of the North.

The afternoon is yours to enjoy at your own pace—go for a peaceful walk, write in your journal, take a nap, or simply relax in the sauna.

After dinner, you'll head out with Rebecca in search of one of nature's most extraordinary spectacles. If the skies are clear and luck is on your side, you'll witness the Northern Lights dancing above the Arctic landscape.

Meals: Breakfast, outdoor lunch and dinner

Day 5

Ice Floating & Deep Stillness

After a relaxed breakfast together, you'll experience one of Lapland's most unique winter activities.

Late in the morning, you'll enjoy ice floating on a peaceful frozen lake. Wearing specially designed thermal flotation suits, you'll drift effortlessly in the icy water, discovering a remarkable sense of calm, weightlessness and connection with nature.

Afterwards, warm up with a cup of hot tea before relaxing in a lakeside Finnish sauna.

The afternoon is yours to spend however you wish—perhaps with a quiet walk, some reading, or simply enjoying the peaceful surroundings.

In the evening, you'll gather once again for a shared dinner, followed by a relaxed conversation around the fireplace.

Meals: Breakfast, outdoor lunch and dinner

Day 6

A Day for Inner and Outer Exploration

After breakfast, today is intentionally left unhurried, giving you the freedom to enjoy Lapland at your own pace.

You may choose to set off on a longer snowshoe hike, explore the area by fat bike, capture the winter landscape through photography, or simply embrace the quiet and slow rhythm of the Arctic.

For those looking for an extra adventure, Rebecca can accompany you on an optional electric snowmobile safari. These quiet, environmentally friendly snowmobiles offer a more sustainable way to experience the snowy wilderness. (This optional activity is available at an additional cost and should be requested when booking.)

In the evening, you'll relax in the Finnish sauna before preparing dinner together—or perhaps baking Rebecca's favourite Finnish cinnamon buns.

A day dedicated to slowing down, finding space to breathe, and enjoying the simple pleasures of life in the North.

Meals: Breakfast and dinner

Day 7

Pyhä–Luosto National Park & the Northern Lights

After breakfast, you'll set out on a guided walk through Pyhä–Luosto National Park. Gentle hills, snow-covered forests and frozen wetlands reveal the quiet beauty of Lapland's winter landscape, with wide-open views across the Arctic wilderness.

Returning to the accommodation in the afternoon, you'll have time to relax and enjoy the peaceful surroundings one last time.

In the evening, you'll come together for a special farewell dinner featuring Nordic flavours, followed by a women's sharing circle—a chance to reflect on the experiences, conversations and connections that have shaped the week.

If the sky is clear, you'll head out once more in search of the Northern Lights—a final opportunity to witness the magic of the Arctic sky.

Meals: Breakfast, outdoor lunch and dinner

Day 8

Departure

After an early breakfast at the accommodation, Rebecca will drive you back to Rovaniemi Airport.

As your journey comes to an end, you'll leave Lapland with more than photographs and souvenirs. You'll take home memories of snow-covered forests, the stillness of the Arctic, shared moments, and—perhaps—the magic of the Northern Lights.

We hope you'll return with a heart full of stories and unforgettable memories of your time in the far north of Finland.

Journey Style & Requirements

This journey is ideal for women with a spirit of adventure, a reasonable level of fitness, sure-footedness, and a love of snow, ice and the Arctic winter.

Depending on the time of year, temperatures in Finnish Lapland can drop to –30°C, although daytime temperatures are more commonly between 0°C and –20°C.

The guided snowshoe hike lasts approximately 1.5 hours, and on most days you'll spend 3–4 hours outdoors taking part in excursions and activities. You'll be walking on snow-covered trails and forest paths, which may be icy and slippery depending on the weather. The routes are not technically difficult, but walking times and activity durations may vary according to snow conditions and the pace of the group.

For the optional electric snowmobile safari, thermal overalls are provided by the local operator. For all outdoor activities, we recommend bringing warm winter clothing using the layering principle, including thermal base layers, a fleece or wool mid-layer, a warm winter jacket, thick socks, a hat, scarf, insulated waterproof boots and warm gloves or mittens.

A small daypack is also recommended for carrying essentials such as snacks, a thermos flask with hot tea and your camera.

We're always happy to help you prepare for your journey and answer any questions about suitable clothing or equipment.

A detailed packing list will be included with your travel documents.
